Who we Support
We help individuals and groups who face financial or other barriers which limit their opportunity to access or participate in sport. See below for our current projects.
What we Fund
We aim to provide funding support to help with, for example, coaching, courses, events, facility hire and equipment.
If you are a sporting organisation and you are looking for funding for a new project that meets our criteria, please get in touch by completing an Expression of Interest online form HERE
'Hockey Start' with George Watson's College
‘Hockey Start’ is a new programme run by George Watson’s College designed to spread the joy of sport, and in particular hockey, to more young people who may not otherwise get the opportunity to participate. Starting February 2019, we are funding coaching time to enable 60 P5 pupils at Gracemount Primary School to enjoy hockey sessions once a week delivered by Watson’s coaches, all who have played the sport at national or international level.
'Moving the Goalpost' with Hibernian Community Foundation
Starting January 2019, we are supporting this project aimed at increasing participation in sport for boys and girls P4-P7. Our funding covers the costs of Hibernian Community Foundation coaches to deliver free football sessions for a year at three primary schools in the Leith area. Sessions also include coaching on health and wellbeing as well as development of other skills such as leadership and communication.
'Street Football in a Safe Place' with Spartans Community Football Academy
Sporting Start is supporting the north Edinburgh-based football club’s 'Street Football in a Safe Place' programme. Our funding goes towards establishing a “boot bank” to ensure primary school children have the opportunity to take part by borrowing appropriate footwear. We will also fund a community coach to support Granton Primary School with Saturday morning sport.
Community Youth Programme with Lismore Rugby Club
This project supports Lismore's community youth programme to help fund the delivery of the rugby and personal development programme to the Castlebrae High School cluster of primary schools in Edinburgh. This three year programme will cover the costs of staff time to deliver the programme and sports kit required for the participants.
